This cool looking planter will surprise you when I tell you that beneath the fabulous zebrano wood veneer is nothing more than a peanut can! Who would guess?!!! You can do this with glass vases and things, too.
Here are a couple of pretty presents! Simply wrap your soaps in pretty wrapping paper and use them for décor and cleaning! You can even fill a big jar up with them to add addition color to the room! Five dollars and five minutes! Try doing the same with toilet paper, and Kleenex, too!
Here is an easy one! Simply take your favorite wallpaper or wrapping paper and frame it! Voila! Instant art work and who would guess?!!!
All you need is a large shell and some fresh apples for this one and you are on your way to a fabulous centerpiece. Pair it with some amazing candelabras and, wow what a look!
Here is another easy one, Just take your favorite wrapping paper or even wallpaper and wrap it around the base or even the center of a candle and either glue it or tie it on with some raffia. Notice the bamboo that it’s sitting on- it’s just a remnant from a matchstick blind that most people would throw out!
Another great tip is to spray paint old chandeliers, light fixtures and hardware. People are always amazed when I take an old brass chandelier or sconce, paint it black and add some white shades. They can’t believe it’s the same piece. This works out great with cabinetry that may have the wrong color hardware on it, too. Just paint it.
Pillow talk: Think outside the box when dressing your place and use ordinary things in extraordinary ways, like these fabulous pillow balls! Who would guess that pillows could be so fun and make such an architectural statement?!
So you like this cluster of fabulous vases? Take a closer look- they are nothing more than wine bottles that have been spray painted. You can take it a step further and create stripes with the help of some masking tape.
Paper art: This one is easy and looks like a million bucks! Simply take a blank white canvas, then select whatever paper that you like (here we chose white) and cut the paper into strips long enough to curl and meander across your canvas. Then, attach the paper to the canvas using an adhesive such as Liquid Nails and let your creative juices flow!
Word art: This project is great because it can be used to express yourself or to simply inspire you. First, select the words that you want to put on your canvas. Buy self adhesive fonts, a canvas and some paint. Then, use a chalk line or tape to space out your words. Make sure that they are straight, unless you want them to be crooked. Stick the letters to your canvas and then paint over the stickers or apply plaster to create depth and texture. Finally, peel off the letters and voila!
Take same sand and spread it over a table, mantel, bah ledge, etc. ad add some shells and some tea lights and what a fun moo you’ve created!
If your walls are made of two by fours (most are), this is an easy one! All you have to do is frame between your two by four and choose the height of your nook and you can create a great detail in your space. This works really well in a hallway, above a toilet, etc. You can leave them with just drywall or be a little more creative and put a mirror or even some mosaic tiles behind it. Now, you can place a vase or statue inside. If you add a light inside, it can create even more drama!
Bench trick: When you don’t have the space to build a bench in your shower this is the perfect solution. This teak wall bench from Waterworks folds up against the wall and takes up very little space, but adds a lot of style!
Mirror trick: When you have a small space and need to create the illusion of greater depth, try using mirror for a backsplash in a built in cabinet space like this. This trick works really well for small kitchens, too.
Paper Chandelier: Though the Ingo Maurer Zettle Z chandelier above my dining room table isn’t my own creation, you can craft a similar version and spare the expensive price tag. You will need: A small spotlight pendant, a roll of screen material, thin wire (the thickness of a paper clip) cut in two and a half and three foot pieces, clips to display paper, parchment or rice paper, and super glue. Cut the screen to measure 18-by-10 inches, roll it into a long tube and use the wire to twist it together, Using the same wire, create an X on top of the tube. Insert the pendant into the newly designed screen tube so that the X rests on top of the bulb. Affix the clips approximately four inches from the end of the long wires with super glue. Let the glue dry, then hang the chandelier and string the wires through the screen. Bend to anchor the wire. Finally, clip the papers with fun things you’ve written on them to the chandelier. You can also add photos and other fun things!
Tool cabinets can work out great as kitchen cabinets if you are going for an industrial feel like this one. It simply requires a little thinking outside of the box.
